BIRKENHEAD DISTRESS COMMITTEE

The Birkenhead District Distress lielief Committee held its last meeting t-"' the vear in the Council Chambers last evening, Air. A. Hadfield, chairman, prelarge amount lected through the commercial travellers' drive having been disposed of, it was decided to close the depot at Mr. G. Edwards’s residence. The committee did not receive any allocation of the money collected by the commercial travellers at the time of their drive, and was pleased to receive from them last night an order for groceries to the value of £2O. This will allow the committee to send out a Christmas parcel to those in need in the district. The chairman, at the close of the meeting, thanked the ladies for their untiling help during the winter.
