“BIG NATIONAL MOVE”

EMPIRE’S MIGRATION NFF.D 300,000 EACH YEAR (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 3 a.m. LONDON, Tuesday. “All previous migration schemes have been tripping and trifling. We want a big national movement from the Motherland to the Dominions, plotted, planned and perfected by the Government on the same scale of vision as was shown in the closing years of the war,” declared Mr. Bruce Walker, Canadian Director of Migration in Europe, at an Empire Society dinner. A mighty national movement was wanted. England had responded with a series of spasmodic efforts. The Empire movement from Britain should average 300,000 yearly," of which Canada at present could ahsorb onethird and within a few years one-half. It should be possible within six months to establish enough training camps to prodnee 20,000 partiallytrained migrants annually. It would cost a lot of money, but it would be returned by relieving the conditions in Britain.
