Great Jamboree
Scouting to Celebrate Its Coming-of-Age A WORLD MOVEMENT (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. p.m. LONDON, Tuesday. Colonel Walton Is organising an international jamboree to be held at Arrow Park, Birkenhead, between July 31 and August 13, with 30,000 Scouts from 42 nations camping over 450 acres, in commemoration of Scouting’s 21st birthday. General Godfrey Fausett will be camp chief, and Sir Robert Baden Powell, world-chief, will be under canvas. The Australian and New Zealand Press Association interviewed Colonel Walton, who said; “The greatest objective is the fostering of world peace, representatives of all creeds and colours fraternising. Other objective are extension of Empire trade, and of scouting in densely-populated areas. There will be a one-day monster rally, the biggest assemblage of youth in history.” Sir Robert Baden-Powell hopes the nations will prepare individualistic displays. He suggests that Australia should stage Captain Cook’s landing or a corroboree. It is anticipated that 500 Australians will charter a ship to bring scouters home, emphasising Australia’s enthusiasm. It will cose £l2O to send each scout from Australia.
