Tribal agitation against King Amanullali's reforms in Eastern Afghanistan is becoming increasingly serious. ShirSwari tribesmen burned a number of Government buildings at Jalalabad, including the King’s Palace, which contained valuable furniture. The loss is estimated at millions of rupees. Five planes and hangars were also burned. Military operations against the rebels were not effective, and five Afghan Ministers are endeavouring to negotiate with the Shinwaris. The roads have been rendered impassable by the tribesmen.
