Nine Months and No Rain
Aucklanders Enjoy Unique Holiday Abroad For the last nine months Mr. C. IT. Jones, Auckland manager for Sargood Son and Even, and Mrs. Jones, have been touring abroad. During the whole of that time they nave never experienced one wet day. The first Auckland shower will be a new experience for them. Incidentally, Mr. ana Mrs. J ones must have established a new world s record as far as travellers are concerned. For tour months tne> .uured England hy m-cor, covering . 4,000 miles in a giorious trip. “The n.ngi.sn summer was pvrlect, said Mr. j-ones yesteruay on his return. “Every w here we went we enjoyeu glorious sunshine.” Mr. Jones euiisiuers that the uan-u-u.aii ±r aciuc Ban.ways nave uie best organisea service in me whole world ne ana ins wife travenea irorn Eng xaiiu to Canada on one of the com pan> s vessels, the Duchess of Jeu ford. “They have the longest railway, the finest hotels and the most commodious steamers,” he said. “Their organisation is perfect. Travellers are treated with the greatest courtesy in every office. It is a pleasure to travel with the company.” Despite the loveliness of England Mr. Jones said there is a dull side to the picture, particularly in the coalmining and industrial areas. In Cardiff one dock was closed —the coal trade from the South of Wales having been driven elsewhere. In some of the small towns half the population was on the dole. Although there was evidence of a revival of trade it would take some years to reach the old standards.
