STOWAWAY WHO WEPT

the steamer Waihemo sailed from Suva recently for Vancouver, with a cargo of raw sugar, she took with her a young Island stowaway who had gone on board while the vessel was in port and fallen asleep in the bunker hold. When awakened rudely to discover that he was at sea he wept bitterly, and as a fireman’s job was too heavy for him, the vessel put in at the island of Koro. He was set ashore at the village of Kandi, and taken in charge by the local chief. The Waihemo arrived at Auckland this morning from Vancouver, where she loaded for New Zealand, after putting out the sugar cargo.
