ON PRODUCTION BASIS

FARMERS OBJECT TO TAXATION (Special to THE SUN) MAKTON, Friday. “If it means a man shall be taxed on the basis of what his land is producing, then it is ridiculous,” said Mr. A. Stuart, when a suggestion that land should be valued for taxation purposes on its productivity was discussed by the Wellington Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union. “A man who produced most would be taxed most. We want more production and in my opinion the mail who is not producing to the full capacity of his farm should be taxed off tho land.” No resolution was passed. * On the subject of land valuation the following resolutions were carried: (1) That the Government be asked to appoint three local farmers to act in conjunction with Government valuer when valuing lands for taxation purposes; (2) that it be a recommendation to the Dominion executive that a move be made toward setting up a committee of experts to take evidence and submit recommendations for a uniform and equitable basis of valuation of rural lands.
