ANNOUNCER FINED
FAILED TO RENEW RADIO LICENCE WELL-KNOWN SOLICITOR (Special to THE SUN) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. “Defendant is a respectable man and a first offender,” said Sub-Inspector J. Fitzpatrick in tho Magistrate's Court of John K. Moloney, a Christchurch solicitor who is known all over New Zealand as a Rugby and amateur athletic enthusiast, and whose, melllow voice frequently comes through the ether from the microphone of 3YA. Tho offence which placed Moloney in the ranks of the law-breakers was that of failing to renew his radio licence, which expired in October. “I need not add anything to the eulogy of the sub-inspector,” said Mr. G. G. Lockwood, who appeared for the offender. “The ‘crime’ is due to inadvertence, and defendant takes it hard because it is well known that he broadcasts for 3YA. “He considers that he is not fair game. The licence has now been taken out. He makes a voluntary appearance.” “Well, I suppose I will have to fine him twice as much as anybody . else,” said Mr. E. D. Mosley, S.M. “He will be fined 205.”
