LAST YEAR’S FIGURES SURPASSED ACTIVITY OF 1928 Although no large building projects were planned during November, there Has been great activity during the 11 months of 1928, and a sum of £1,579,940 is involved in the building schemes so far put in hand. With a month to go, the 1927 total of £1,428,392 has already been passed, and perhaps this is a sign of the city’s financial revival. No large scheme is involved in the permits issued last month, but the principal ones were:—Additions to flats in Princes Street, for Davis. Consolidated; £12,764; classrooms for Sisters of Mercy, New Street, £11,557; and addition to Fairburn, Wright and Co.’s warehouse. Federal Street, £7,300. November of last year, with permits for schemes involving £245,633, has a big lead on last month’s £89,790, but included in the figures for November, 1927, were £65,000 for St. James Theatre, and £83,500 for the South British Insurance Company’s building in Sliortland Street. Unless there are some big undertakings anno*fnced this month. October, with its £452,515, will be the heaviest month of 1928, as against November, 1927. with £245,633.
