GOOD FISHING
REPORTS FROM TAUPO “LIMIT” BAGS OBTAINED (Special to THE SUN) WELLINGTON, Friday. Tlio excellence of the fishing at Lake Taupo, which was so much in evidence at tlie commencement of the season, is being maintained, especially on the western side of the lake, at the delta anti along tho Tongariro River. This information is contained in a report furnished to the Minister of Internal Affairs by the Conservator of Game and Fish at Rotorua. Fishing at Whakaipo and Whangavnata Bays a party of three rods landed 38 fish in one day, tlie best individual catch being 13 fish, which weighed from 71b to 10ilb, with an average of 81b 6oz. In the same locality a party of two rods each caught the limit and had to desist from fishing before the day was over. Tho Tongariro River is providing excellent sport, although some of the fish taken, being late spawners, are not in quite as good gondition as those taken in the lake. As far up tlio river as Ivowhai Flat fish up to 101 b liavo been caught, and it is recorded that three rods landed 4G fish in two days in tho vicinity of tlie “log” pool. Limit bags are a common occurrence at the Delta. The surprising condition of the fish at this early stage of tho season is being freely discussed. In the opinions of at least two of the most experienced Taupo fishermen the season promises to equal the “big” fish years of 1923-24.
