Study in Frills for Summer
This is the age of frills—with a difference. Fashion cries, "frills must be worn,” in every shop window, and the creative dressmaker twhts ana crumples her material to produce—just frills. But there is more in frills than a curling edge or tiers of soft flufiiness that make skirts like glorified pow-der-puffs. Just as there is recognised an art in the “hang” of a gown, so too should it be noticed what a great deal of designing and work is put into present day frills that adorn the most exquisite frocks.
• There is that drooping full frill thatmelts into folds on the bouncing skirt of an honest bouffant frock. It is seen also on those straight, modernistic gowns that rebel against any set rules of line and cut, and become pretentious in the attempt to be “different.” Flat Frills Then there are flat frills ideal for the girl with the slim figure, but nearly always favoured by those who are plump and wish to look sapliuglike. Such frills can be plain or decorative, and are suitable for nearly every material, if not every girl.
Fluttering frills are very soft and leave a trail of dignity behind, when grating tall figures. Irregularly de fined, and falling in careless points, they are chiffon’s youngest sisters. Now for the matter-of-fact ’ r< ' that stand out like the pleated P a Pf ’ found around the shop cakes a apple tarts. ~ Taffeta and these go side by Slav For evening wear, these stiff frill* , quaint, and become demure in shaaeu lights, but for the day time they neea a courageous wearer—one who doe mind being stared at!
