HIS MAJESTY’S
“MIDNIGHT FROLICS” ON WEDNESDAY The return visit, commencing at His Majesty’s Theatre on Wednesday next, of the “Midnight Frolics,” will be warmly welcomed by a large number of amusement lovers. This company since its last visit here, has played exceptionally successful seasons ip Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. On this trip the players are presented by J. C. Williamson for an extended season with, matinees on Saturdays and holidays. The show' this visit is billed as a “brand new” one as regards dressing, staging, and sketches. NatwraUy the fun making is principally m rne hand? of Clem Dawe, undoubtedly one of the most popular comedians seen in the colonies for many years. A critic of the “Mail, Brisbane, says: “The ’Midnight Frolics are pre senting a hill at His Majesty* Theatre eminently in keeping with their great reputation and it was not surprising to find the ’house f« sign verv early displayed on Saturday night. There was also a delightful variety in the offerings, which included humour galore, catchy song-., clever dancing, artistic sketches, lemarkable violin playing, a breezy jazz band and other -attractions calculated to enthuse the most tastidious of vaudeville and revue patrons. The stage settings, too, are of quite a unique and brilliant type, and the lighting effects, costumes and other accessories go tow*ard the completement of a really wonderful entertainment, which, the large audience evidently highly appreciated.” Changes of programme will be given w'eekly during the Auckland season. Clem Dawe is assisted in his funmaking by Eric Edgley, and these two artists are a happy combination of jesters. Other funmakers in the show are Les and Dorothy "White. The Frolics Jazz Band of 12 is a big feature with the company. The specialty dancing is headed by a charming artist, Phyllis Amery, and Gregory Ivan off’s violin playing is always welcome. The company is strong in singers. These are Oscar Beck, William Perryman and Lillian Crisp, the latter recently appeared here in principal roles with the Gilbert and Sullivan opera company. Gertie Cremer is said to be a delightful comedienne. The box plans open on Monday at ; Lewis Eady, Ltd.
