SOCCER TROPHIES
PRESENTATION LAST EVENING CARNIVAL QUEEN ELECTED Soccer enthusiasts and players gathered in full force last evening, when the Auckland Football Association held its annual presentation. The president. Mr. E. 11. Davis, presided. Not the least important event of the evening was the announcing of the final count of votes in the Queen Carnival contest, which for weeks past has been demanding considerable interest and enthuu' in. The count resulted as follows: Miss Marjory Simpson (Business Houses), Miss Mavis Ross (Y.M.C.A.), Miss Hilda Takle (Tramways), Miss Nellie Bentley (Onehunga). Miss Marjorie Armstrong (Ponsonby), Miss Lena Follas (Belmont). Mr. Davis presented Miss Simpson with a gold medal, which is to be suitably inscribed. A public crowning ceremony will be held early in the New Year. In reviewing the past season, Mr. Davis referred to the lean financial time which had been experienced, and to once again place the association in a strong position financially, it would he a matter for all to put their shoulders to the wheel. He had every confidence in the 2,500 players of the code in Auckland, and he felt that .such a strong body of sportsmen could not fail to succeed, especially after the keenness of the competitions in the season just closed and the high standard of play shown in all grades. The trophies were awarded as follow: Senior championship shield, SkeaLes Cup, and president’s medals; Tramways Club. Falcon Cup, senior grade knockout competition: Tramways Club. Second grade championship and Dacre Cup: Manurewa. Third grade open championship and knock-out competition: W.Y.M.I. Third grade intermediate championship: North Shore A. The trophies in the junior grades were presented by the vie‘-president of the association, Mr. H. S. W. King, who congratulated the Auckland Primary Schools representative team on winning the Webster Shield in the North Island Primary Schools tournament held at Huntly. Each boy received a photograph of the successful team. Following were the winners in the respective grades:—Fourth grade championship and knock-out competition: North Shore. Fifth grade championship and knock-out competition: North Shore. Sixth grade championship (Campbell Cup): Belmont. Sixth grade knock-out competition (Long Cup): Y.M.C.A. Seventh grade championship and knock-out competition: Belmont. Secondary Schools—Senior championship and knock-out competition (Beswick Shield and St. Andrew’s trophy): Mount Albert Grammar School. Junior championship (H. S. W. King Cup), and knock-out competition: Takapuna Grammar School. Primary Schools —Senior championship, Robinson Shield: Bayfield School. Senior knock-out, Maristonian Cup: Belmont. Junior championship, Reason Cup: Belmont. Junior knock-out, Hibbert Cup: Belmont. W. Thompson, Technical College, was presented with the medal for the best sportsman on and off the field in the secondary school representative team.
