The field in the Novice Stakes was sent away' in a very ragged line, Marica showing the way to Havering, Miss Atlanta, Skypoint and The Warden. Crossing the top Havering ranged up alongside Marica, with The Warden and Cloyne, who had been compelled to come round the field, in attendance. Once landed into the straight Havering and The Warden drew out with Cloyne in hot pursuit, and in a punishing finish Cloyne got up to beat Havering by a head, with The Warden beaten into third berth a length back.
