BOYS TO TOUR DOMINION
BRITISH PUBLIC SCHOOLS A SEVEN WEEKS’ VISIT (Australian and N.Z. Press Associationl LONDON, Friday. Under the auspices of the Public Schools Empire Tour Committee, Mr. L. S. Amery’s creation, of which Dr. Rendall is chairman, 40 selected boys from Eton, Harrow, Winchester, Charterhouse and Stowe are to make a seven weeks’ tour of New Zealand. They will sail on. January 4 by the lonic, and arrive at Wellington on February 11. Mr. Darling, a Charterhouse master, is to be the leader of the party, with Lieutenant Smith-Dorrien as his assistant. The advance agent is Mr. Francis Portal. He will arrive in Wellington on January 14 by the Corinthic. The party will leave New Zealand on March 28 for London, visiting the Australian capitals en route. The objective of Mr. Darling is to make those whose future is connected with the destiny of the Empire cognisant of the peoples and the conditions of the great self-governing Dominions. Thus he hopes to knit the Empire closer by mutual understanding. The tours made to South Africa jgiil Canada were conspicuous successes. Probably next year’s tour will be to Australia.
