IGNORE PROPOSAL

U.S. AND BRITTEN PLAN (Australian and NjZ. Press Association) WASHINGTON, Thurs. The Washington correspondent of the United Press Association says that if Mr. Baldwin asks the guidance of the United States Government regarding Mr. F. A. Britten’s naval conference proposal, he will be advised to’ ignore it, according to authoritative circles. Both Mr. Coolidge and the State Department are expected to ignore it also, unless it is officially brought to the attention of the Administration. It is understood the latter would prefer to let the proposal die without further discussion, and this is expected to happen unless Mr. Britten or someone in London revives the matter. Mr. Britten is chairman of the Naval Affairs Committee of the United States House of Representatives. He sent a private cablegram to Mr. Baldwin suggesting a joint meeting of members of the American and British Parliaments in Canada to discuss naval parity. The message was communicated without delay to the House of Commons, with the members of which will rest the decision. The proposal Is assured of most friendly consideration in the House, but the nearness of the general election is among the difficulties in the way of Its acceptance.
