DESERVED ALL HE GOT
S.M. REPROVES WITNESS “A MEDDLESOME MAN” Dismissing a charge of using obscene language, made against James Hannon at the Police Court this morning, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., severely reprimanded the principal witness for the police. Hannon appeared on summons. Mr, Allan Moody entering a plea of not guilty on his behalf. According to Samuel Hunter, he was having a quiet talk with Mr. James, an Auckland Power Board employee, when Hannon, who had been lounging nearby during the conversation, came up using vile language and threatening assault. Under cross-examination by Mr. Moody, who mentioned that defendant was a power-board foreman, witness admitted that he had been asking questions about certain power-board affairs which were really no concern of his. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.: If I were the boss I would feel like speaking to this n>an very severely, too. Stanley John James, the man to whom the previous witness had been speaking, remembered that Tlunter had been asking him why the poWer board had taken off its own trucks, using private carriers in their place. He had also made remarks about “crawlers" in the board’s employ. Mr. Hannon had then taken a hand, telling Hunter to get off the job. Mr. Hannon had sworn at the man, but his language was certainly not obscene and nothing like Hunter had alleged. The magistrate dismissed the case. “A man who behaves as blunter did deserves all he gets," he said. “He is an interfering, meddlesome-tongued man."
