TAXI LICENCES

REMOVING ANOMALIES HIGHER FEES PROPOSED At present taxis which wait on street stands have to be equipped with meters costing from £25 to £IOO. Those that ply from garages do not have this fixture. An effort to remove the anomaly to some extent was decided on by the City Council last evening. It was decided: (1) That cabs licensed from private garages be prohibited from carrying trade marks, such as checkers on the body-work: (2) that the drivers wear uniforms, but no trade mark on their caps, and (3) that the licence fee be £ 5 a year instead of ‘he present £2 fee. Before this comes into operation the city solicitor will be asked for an opinion on the council’s powers to make the necessary by-laws.
