SKILLED WORK
SPECIAL AWARDS TO APPRENTICES SEDDON COLLEGE MEDALS To encourage students to take r»n interest in skilled craftsmanship the Seddon Memorial Technical College Board of Managers this year offered Seddon Memorial gold medals to students, who are also apprentices, for pieces of work of a specially meritorious nature. This year three students entered namely, H. Hayman, fitting and turning work; S. Elliott, slieetmetal work; R. Gibson, cabinetmaking. The judges for the respective sections were: Messrs. W. Long and W. Cameron, Messrs. W. Harvey and E. Griffiths, Messrs. W. T. Smith and W. H. Heathwaite. The judges were members of the apprenticeship committee in each of the industries concerned, one member representing the employers and one representing employees.
In each instance the committee considered the work submitted worthy of the award of a Seddon Memorial medal. The judges were instructed to award medals only in instances where they considered the craftsmanship to be of a high order and to represent a skill that is quite unusual among apprentices, it being hoped the award of medals would serve as & stimulus to all apprentices engaged in the classes.
