St. Stephen’s Cadets Hold Annual Parade INSPECTION OFFICER PLEASED Sharp words of command echoed across the parade ground of St. Stephen’s School for Maori boys yesterday afternoon, when the school cadet corps paraded for inspection before Lieutenant T. P. Laffey, N.Z.S.C. Lieutenant P. Smyth, O.C. Cadet's, was in command of the parade, and Sergeant-Major S. Green, the corps instructor, was present. It was a fine, sunny afternoon —ideal for such, a parade, and the cadets appeared wonderfully keen on their work, their appearance on parade being almost beyond criticism. Under the section-commanders they carried out small-arms drill, physical training and marching' with and without arms. Number Two Section led the way iimost all through the parade, being awarded the greatest number of points in all except one division of the parade. They failed in their marching, but more than made up for the failure in their inspection and drills, so that at the finish they received 672 points, Number One getting 63. Number Four 59, and Number Three 585. After the parade Lieutenant Laffey congratulated the cadets on their appearance and drill. The standard all round, he said, was exceptionally high and the method of control by the N.C.O.’s was excellent. “You are a credit to the school, to Mr. Smyth, and, which is possibly the most important of all, to yourselves, he finished.
