“THE OPENING NIGHT” AT EMPIRE

Robert Chandler, noted New York theatrical producer, is called to Lo n . den in the midst of preparations for i new play in which his beautiful younwife, Carol, and Jimmy Keane are t” appear. Luring the trip the liner is rammed by a derelict, and is sinking, in the midst of the confusion Robert is calm giving his lifebelt to a crippled child and carrying her to the lifeboat. He assists women and children, having no fear of death. On one of his trips to the lifeboat he sees a fear-crazed man shot down by an officer as he is trying to climb into a. crowded boat. In an instant Robert sees himself torn from his wife and child. He pictures her great suffering over his death, and immediately he is seized by a strong desire to live at any cost. “Chicken a la King,” a comedy of husbands and chorus girls, will also be shown, starring Nancy Carroll.
