HURLEY GETS OFFERS OF FINANCIAL HELP
GENEROUS AUSTRALIAN PREPARED TO GIVE ANOTHER £I,OOO (Australian and X.Z. Press Association) Reed. 10 a.m. ATHENS, Wed. Captain Frank Hurley, who crashed in attempting a record flight from Australia to England, says he has received offers of financial assistance for a new machine to replace the Spirit of Australia; but he is awaiting advices from Australia. A Sydney cablegram says:—A wealthy resident of Sydney, Mr. Rofe, who provided a large part of the finance for Captain Frank Hurley’s attempted flight to England, has received a cablegram from the airman and Flying-Officer Owen. They both expressed regret at their crash at Athens. Mr. Rofe now announces that he is willing to contribute another £I,OOO toward a new machine. Officials of the All- Board, Melbourne-, state that Mr. Owen’s resignation from the Air Force has been accepted. It was generally thought that the board had granted him leave of absence to undertake the flight with Captain Hurley.
