King’s School Chapel Dedicated
Primate’s Address BOYS HELP WITH SAVINGS Before a congregation mainly comprised of the boys of the school, the new chapel at King's School, Remuera, was dedicated by the Primate, Archbishop Averill, this morning. The new building, constructed in wood, has just been completed, and was contributed to largely by the boys themselves. A number of friends were present, but the main service for other than pupils will be held this evening. Among those present this morning were Canon H. K. Archdall, head master of King’s College; the Rev. G. C. Cruickshank, St. Marks’; the Rev. H. A. Coleman, St. Aidan’s: the Ven. Archdeacon MacMurary; the Rev. R. G. Coats, Epiphany; the Rev. A. W. Payne, St. John’s College; and the Rev. J. G. Castle, headmaster of King’s School. Archbishop Averill, in his address, said he would like the motto of the chapel to be “This is none other than the House of God, and this is the gate of Heaven.” He expressed pleasure that the school at last had such a fine chapel, and complimented the headmaster on the inspiration which had brought the idea to materialisation, and the boys for their assistance, many of them having given from their savings or from their pocketmoney. The value of a gift was largely judged by the amount of sacrifice it had entailed, and he believed that the new chapel would be of more value in God’s sight because it had cost the boys something.
