FINE GALLOP AT ELLERSLIE Fine weather conditions made final gallops for the Takapuna meeting more interesting at Ellerslie this morning than hitherto, and several of the bouts witnessed provided a good line on the prospects of the candidates to-morrow. The course proper (35ft out) and No. 2 grass were the tracks in use, and both provided excellent going. Course Proper WTien Corinax, accompanied by Golden Wedding, stepped out to cover seven furlongs, the pair were the subject of keen scrutiny, track-watchers noting that both were in great order. They jumped away together, and striding in good style over the journey, had little separating them at the end, to record 1.31 2-5 —fast time. Corinax’s effort was not so pleasing to his admirers as was expected, for Golden Wedding was doing it every bit as well as he at the end, and her gallop indicates that she will not disgrace herself in her engagement at Takapuna. It is thought, however, that she will find it just a little too far. I The Takapuna Plate candidate Avon Court ran a splendid five furlongs in 1.3 3-5, being in company with King Emerald, who also went nicely. Winsome Boy moved very pleasingly over six furlongs in 1.18 3-5, his gallop being sufficiently good to gain him many friends for to-morrow. Vallar and Palmares were asked to cover five furlongs in 1.5, the former having much the better of the gallop. Smart Youngster Nor val Tea and Critique covered five furlongs in 1.5 3-5, the former finishing lengths ahead of her companion. Nor val Tea is very speedy and must be given a chance to-morrow if she leaves the barrier. Bennie and Lady’s Boy (on the outside) finished on terms at the enrl. of half a mile in 52 3-5. The latter was doing it nicely at the finish, however. Number Two Grass Only a three furlongs task was apportioned Gold Money and Eager Rose, nnd the former was travelling exceptionally well to register 37 3-5. Taneriri was not bustled to get to the end of half a mile in 52 3-5, while Sir Mond finished in advance of Mangaiti over a similar distance in 50 4-5. Modest Boy was not unduly hurried over half a mile in 52 2-5, and was hitting out nicely at the end. A Southerner who claimed marked attention by the manner in which lie covered five furlongs was Millais. Jumping away smartly he sped over the initial furlong in 12 3-5, the last half-mile taking 40 4-5, thus making 2-2 2-5 for the journey—remarakably ciood time. He looks very well, too, •and obviously is going to run a great race in the Takapuna Plate. Hyde Park travelled six furlongs, tihe final five taking 1.7 4-5. Lmeroo and Archeno moved easily over a round in 1.54. Lord Abbey and Lucklaine showed a lo*t of early speed in an effort over six furlongs, getting to the end of the first three in 36 3-5, and the full task in 1.19 2-5.
