SKULL CRUSHED BY ROCK
COUNCIL WORKMAN KILLED FATALITY AT HUIA DAM While working on the City Council dam at Huia, a workman, John Urquhart, aged 45, was killed by a falling rock. The accident occurred late yesterday afternoon. Mr. Urqufcart was working in the quarries when a large piece of rock above him worked loose and fell. The other workmen called out to him, but he did r.ot hear, and walked right into the path of the falling rock. He was struck on the head, his fa.ee being badly injured and the back of his skull being crushed so badly that death must have been instantaneous. Somebody, thinking that the accident was not fatal, called the St. John Ambulance which, with a city doctor on board, set off for the dam. The journey was made with great difficulty a* the road was in a very bad state. The ambulance brought the body to Auokland. and it was placed in the morlUTlie dead man leaves a widow and I two children. He is believed to have a sister living in Whangarei..
