CAMBRIDGE CARNIVAL
Cambridge was en fete yesterday, when its inaugural shopping and carnival week was opened by the member for the district, Mr. F. Lye, M.P., incidentally, it was Mr. Lye’s first official act since his election. The town presented a very gay appearance with bunting flying in the streets and other decorations. The busin^ S4J »_ b e °Pl e have entered into the spirit of the movement with enthusiasm, and no - for many years have the shops presented such a bright, refreshing appearance. In the afternoon, when the fixture *Was officially opened in the presence of the Mayor, Mr. T. F. Richards, and the president of the carnival. Air. C. F. there was a -very large assemblage in Victoria Street. Throughout tne week sports competitions and other attractions will be held daily in the streets, with dancing and other entertainments each evening. The carnival will conclude on .Saturday afternoon with a grand florai fete. Given fine weather Cambridge’s firet shopping and carnival week promises to be a great success, and the movement should do much to encourage co-operation between the town and rural ties. The fixture is being held under the auspices of the Chamber of Commerce.
