CRUISING GOSSIP
The delightful weather on Saturday afternoon invited yacht and launch men far afield. All the well-known resorts had their trail of white wings and threshing propellors. Saturday afternoon began with a rather light south-west breeze that hardly made the boats move along against a strong flowing tide. Toward 3 p.m. the breeze freshened and the cruising flotilla got along in fine style. Those crews who have had a go at fishing for the most part do not report heavy catches as yet. Among the craft to visit Oneroa were Rawene, Torangi, Kotiri, Windward, Latiye Wilma and the launch lorana. The first-named later struck across to Shakespeare Bay, Whangaparoa. * * * The veteran of the fleet, Waitangi Is due to take the water on Thursday’s big tide. There was quite an assemblage at Pine Island during the week-end. Most of the boats were from 18ft downward. A number of launches also visited the popular rendezvous. Valeria was there and Splay joined in on Sunday. Brown’s Bay was the rendezvous for a number of the smaller craft on Saturday; boats from as far as Richmond anchoring off the pjpular strand. Ostend was a close second for the same type boats, the lure of pictures and dancing not yet having palled. * s * A fishing party after fruitless hours off Canoe Rock during the week-end was on the point of giving up when luck turned and 18 or 19 fine hapuka were brought to surface.
