SANDERS CUP TRIALS

ENTHUSIASM AT LYTTELTON ( Special to THE SUN) CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. The new Lyttelton boat Colleen proved to he much faster than Secreover a triangular course in the second 'Sanders Cup trial on Saturday and the boat from the port had a fairly comfortable win, telegraphs stay” of the Christchurch “Sun. Conditions were then very favourable to the new boat, the wind being a light north-easter. A feature of Colleen’s performance was her wonderful qualities in sailing with the wind. In the first trial Colleen proved that she was much faster than Secret on a run, but on Saturday her performance was even better than in the first trial, and she made Secret look like a barge. Usher was again hopelessly out of the race, although at the start she looked as if she would give the other boats a good fight for it. It was the excellent running qualities of the new boat that gave her the race, but she was sailed nowhere as consistently as Secret, whose skipper, Fred Morrison, was no doubt the best skipper of the day. He will have a good chance of being selected to sail the representative in the next contest after the third trial next Saturday. The selection committee will meet to pick a skipper and boat, and if it is not satisfied further races will have to be sailed.
