FOUND HOUSE AFIRE
CARD GAME INTERRUPTED OUTBREAK IN REMUERA Hearing an insistent crackling ncjfS?while he and his wife and two visitors were playing cards in the front room of his house in Lucerne Road, Remuera, Mr. A. F. Moginie went out to investigate. He found that the whole of the back of the house was a mass of flames. The fire broke out about 10.30 last evening in the wash-house at the back of Mr. Moginie's house, which was a six-roomed wooden one. As soon as the fire was discovered Mrs. Moginie tried to ring up the Are brigade. She found, however, that the telephone wires had been burned through, and «ie had to go to a neighbour s house before she could give the alarm. Consequently, when the Remuera Fire Brigade arrived half the house was well alight. But, working at full speed, they soon had the Are under control and made a good save of the front part of the house. The wash-house, kitchen and a short passage were gutted and j three other rooms were damaged by j smoke and water. The house was insured for £I,OOO, and the contents for, £250 in the Alliance Office.
