AUSTRALIAN MARKET FIRM DEMAND FOR WHITE PINE An improvement in the market for New Zealand timber in Australia is ! reported by Mr. A. E. E. Dodd, managing director of Robert B. Gibbons. Etd., on his return from Australia bv the Ulimaroa to-day. The improvement may be only temporary, he says, as far as Dominion timber is concerned, but at the moment the market has improved very much. The principal demand in Australia is for New Zealand white pine. Rimu is not so brisk as it was four months ago. White pine, says Mr. Dodd, can onlv go to a certain price, after which it meets with competition from the American yellow pine. A large quantity of American timber is being imported into Australia, at the present time.
