MOTHER ASKS BENCH TO SEND SON TO GAOL
NUISANCE AT HOME Christopher John Huntly has made such a nuisance of himself to his mother that she asked Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., this morning, to “put him away” for as long as possible. Last Saturday, Huntly, a pensioner, aged 38, was charged at th© Police Court with being idle and disorderly and begging alms in Queen Street. His appearance then was not good and Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., remanded him fqr a week to be cleaned up at the gaoll Closely shaved and with his hair much tidier, ITuntly asked for a chance this morning. Mr. F. W. Schramm promised, on behalf of Huntly, that he would leave for tho country if allowed to do so. H© would also take out a prohibition order. Huntly was suffering from severe war injuries. •‘lf I allow him to go to the country I would get shoals of letters complaining about it from country people,” remarked Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M. “This man is a nuisance to liis family. His mother, quite a respectable woman, cam© to me and asked that he be put away for as long as possible,” Huntly was convicted and ordered to com© up for sentence when called upon, on condition that he left town today. WANTED CLEAN-UP OLD MAN REMANDED John Gregg Cummings, a clerk, aged 76, would b© very much the better for a clean-up, according to Chief-Detec-tive Hammond. Cummings was charged at th© Police Court this morning with being idle and disorderly, and begging alms in Queen Street. On the suggestion of Mr. Hammond, who said that Cummings had been begging about the streets for some time, the old man was remanded for a week. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.: I wish we could send these men away somewhere. Mr. Hammond: They won’t stay in any institution. Mr. Hunt: I know that too well, unfortunately.
