ADVERTISING PIGMY MAN SHOWMAN BEFORE COURT In His enthusiasm to advertise the Pigmy man, a feature of the side-shows at the A. and P. Show, William Galvin posted bills on other people’s hoardings recently. Galvin, a bill-poster, and Allan Evans, a showman, were charged at the Police Court this morning with failing to obtain permission from th© Auckland City Council before posting bills on private hoardings. Prosecuting for the City Council, Mr. R. H. Mackay said that Galvin had plastered the town with posters, which were displayed on hoardings, shops and fences. The offenders had been warned, but had obtained a free advertisement out of their act. The City Council was asking for the infliction of the maximum penalty of £2O. Evans complained that he should never have been summoned to appear. Galvin had been employed to post bills by an advance agent. Evans said that he had paid Chandler’s compensation for the use of their hoardings, and would start tearing down the posters to-night. H© was afraid h© would lose his position as manager of the Pigmy Man Show over the occurrence, so asked the magistrate to be lenient. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., gave Evans until Tuesday to remove the posters. “The more bills you pull down the less will be the fine,” he remarked. The case was adjourned until Tuesday morning.
