Trip to Arapuoi The Railway Department will run two excursions this week-end. Excursionists will reach Auckland on the return journey ap 10.2 p.m. The Wellington train will reach Rotorua at eight o’clock on Saturday morning, and will leaye again on the return journey at 5.45 o’clock on Sunday evening. • • • Mountaineer’s Record Mr. Samuel Turner, of Wellington, made his 50th ascent of Mount Egmont oil Tuesday. Mr. Samuel Turner, H’.R.G.S., of Edelweiss, Highland Park, Wellington, is well known as a climber and explorer. He holds a Russian Imperial Medal for Siberian exploration. He is the author of “Climbing Adventures in Four Continents,” “The Conquest of the New Zealand Alps” and other books on mountaineering. A keen sportsman, Mr. Turner was champion of the Miramar Golf Club in 1920 and 1921. He is now 53 years old. All Rates Collected There have been no outstanding rates in Martinborough Borough for tho last 23 years, the only sum written off by the town clerk during that period being 2s tid, a penalty on rates overdue. The council expressed its appreciation of the clerk’s fine work at its last meeting, when it was announced that all outstanding rates for the last year had been collected and the bal-ance-sheet had been returned from the Audit Department with no tags attached. * * » Assault Case Adjourned The principal witness being in hospital, an assault charge against Peter McClaren cannot be proceeded with. McClaren, alias McClaren ce, a labourer, aged 49, was charged at the Police Court this morning with assaulting Albert Henry Dedman. Sub-Inspector McCarthy asked for a remand until Monday as Dedrian was in hospital. Bail was fixed in one surety of £lO. * * * Builder’s Bad Luck “Sheer bad luck” was how the creditors of Harry Krissarsen. a Northcote builder, unanimously described his bankruptcy this morning. They did not question Kristiansen’s affairs, and passed a resolution to facilitate his discharge. Debtor, who was represented by Mr. W. W. Meek, owed £2Bl. and had jLu9 assets. He began business in 1924 with £l5O capital. A partnership, formed next year, proved to be unsatisfactory. Two years later, debtor was forced to take over liabilities totalling £.200. He managed to clear these, but continued illness in his family again placed him behind.
