Wonderful N.Z.
English Family Settles in Auckland WONDERFUL POSSIBILITIES “If New Zealand had not been on the map we would have stayed in England. "And if New Zealand had not been such a beautiful country, full of possibilities, we would have returned to England/’ There, in two brief sentences, is the reason why Mr. L. J. Shrubsall has settled in Auckland. With his wife and family of eight children and two domestics he arrived from London recently. Right from the time they stepped on to the wharf at Auckland the glamour of New Zealand has held them. The whole family is delightfully happy and looking forward to more happiness in the future. Mr. Shrubsall, through C. F. Bennett, Ltd., has purchased Mr. A. Burt’s beautiful 10-roomed residence in Shelly Beach Road, Herne Bay, overlooking the harbour and with a frontage to the beach. He is keen on aquatics and has already purchased a launch. He also possesses two motor-cars, and as soon as the family has settled down they intend to make a comprehensive tour of the whole Dominion. It was really the future of their children which brought Mr. and Mrs. Shrubsall to New Zealand. "We thought there would be better opportunities for them here,” he said this morning. "Everything is so crowded at Home. You have the open spaces, some of the most wonderful scenery in the world, an excellent climate, splendid boating—in fact, in the two Islahds you have everything. "I think an Englishman feels more at home in New Zealand than anywhere in the world. From the moment we landed we were made to feel thoroughly at home. We went straight from the wharf to a furnished house which, unknown to us, had been taken by a friend. Our welcome to New Zealand was a really line one.” Mr. Shrubsall’s children, the eldest of whom is 14. are all excited about their new home and eager to get to ,school. As he says himself, they will be brought up as colonials, under the best possible conditions. Already Mr. Shrubsall has sent Home invitations to friends to come and stay with him. He is also asking his father, who is chairman of the Pearl Assurance Company in London, to come out for a visit.
