WORK BEGINS THIS WEEK SCHEME TO COST £68,000 Press A ssoexatio it WELLINGTON, To-day. Mr. J. B. Thompson, chairman of the National Park Board, said in an interview that ten days ago a special meeting of the Park Board was held, when all agreements and the lease between the board and the Tongarlro Park Tourist Company were finalised, and documents signed by the respective parties. The board is leasing several areas, in all about 60 acres, to the company, and the lease takes effect on December 1, when the company takes over the control of all accommodation. It is compelled by its franchise to erect a suitable hostel. At its last meeting the Park Board gave its approval to the general plans of the building. It will bear an imposing appearance, incorporating a basement and four storeys in Georgian architecture. The construction will ba of concrete, brick and hollow' tiles and the completion date of the contract is in December next year. Together with a hs'dro-elec trie plant and lodges its cost will be about £68,500. The contractors are the Fletcher Construction Company and Mr. Herbert Wall, of Timaru. is the architect. Work is to start this week.
