Innovations Numerous at Summer Show
Accommodation for Stock Attendants RODEO AND RADIO Accommodation for 40 stock attendants on the Epsom Showgrounds has been provided by the Auckland A. and P. Association. The show begins to-morrow and last evening the attendants moved into their quarters. ! This is an innovation by the association. —To-day exhibitors were conj yratulatinK the officials on the move, which means that immediate attention can be given stock. The side-show holders were early on the grounds this morning. Canvas shelters, workmen carrying timber and groups of men juggling with hammers, nails and heavy beams —these were conspicuous scenes. The show preliminaries were on. The Epsom oval is rapidly being hemmed in by stalls and tents. Almost all the available ground for side exhibitions has been reserved. Last evening saw the arrival of large numbers of stock. Here again, the accommodation has been improved. Comparative figures show that the total entries are nearly 130 ahead of those for last year’s show. In the stock sections the increase is more ma rked. This morning the secretary. Mr. W. F. O’Donnell, was busy superintending the operations at the ground, lio was convinced that the improvements made in arrangements and accommodation would mean a heightening in public interest. Radio and rodeo—these are two important innovations. All the announcing will be done through amplifiers erected around the enclosure, and a steer-riding competition will be held for the first time in Auckland. Entries for the competition will be hard to cope with, the officials expect. The Auckland Kennel Club has practically completed its arrangements for the holding of the dog show. Many Southern breeders will be exhibiting. Enlargements to the show ring allow ample space for the stock parades and competitions. A military tournament will be a further big event to be staged in the oval, and special space is being set aside for the woodmen's contests. On both days the show will open at 10 a.m. Car-parking space has been provided in the Alexandra Park trotting grounds. This morning’s scenes were remarkable for the systematic manner in which ordered array w«s being formed from a jumble of stock and goods. There was a consistent stream - of motor-trucks bearing circus odds and. ends, agitated stock, parts of stalls, and goods for exhibition.
