CLAIMS £lO6, AWARDED £6 SEQUEL TO PLANTATION FIRE (Special to THE SUN) THAMES, Wednesday. West met East in the Thames Magistrate’s Court, when a Maori, Rang! Gage, claimed £lO6 damages from a Chinese market Willie One Lin. Gage’s claim was based on an allegation that the lighting of a fire by Willie One Lin had rendered useless an area held by Gage under a timbercutting contract. Gage alleged that One Lin had started .a fire which swept and destroyed a plantation on which Gage had secured a remunerative contract for the cutting of firewood and sticks foj* Auckland market gardeners. After hearing voluminous evidence, Mr. F. W. Platts, S.M., awarded Gage damages amounting to £6.
