HOCKEY REPS. DO WELL IN SUBURBAN CRICKET

was defeated by Harbour Board in its opening game, but is apparently finding Green Lane an easier proposition. But Green Lane is developing, too, particularly in the batting side. Next Saturday should' see interesting developments. Tho Sussex coach, George Cox, is going to give advice to the Lane batsmen, but strict attention should certainly be paid to improving the bowling. Sallen (63), Moore (51), and Dickson (50) were Victoria’s best batsmen, while Clive Watts knocked up a useful 45 for the Lane. * * * Glen Eden played strongly after a drab beginning. Kerr made a fine sixth-wicket stand and put up 73. After A. BelshanTs dismissal, a rot set in, and the last four wickets fell with the addition of only 16 runs. Ellerslie will have to improve bn its batting displays to date, however, if it wants to stall off Glen Eden, which has not yet met the two teams with apparently the best chances—Ponsonby and Harbour Board. So far Glen Eden, while putting up big scores, has been rather erratic. Ellerslie’s best play has been in its bowling. * * Those who took any considerable numbers of wickets with good averages on Saturday were: Turner (Harbour Board), 4-43; Burton (Ellerslie), 4-51; Seccombe (Green Lane), 4-55; and Wroath (Green Lane), 4-69.
