POLITICS OR FARMING?
STATUS OF A PAPER FARMERS OPPOSE PROPAGANDA (From Our Ou n Corrctpoudnt ) MORRIXSVILLE. Tuesday. I Although the Country Party candi date for the ’Waikato electorate received big support in the Morrins. ville district, the political flavour of j Farming First,” the New Zealand Farmers’ Union official organ came i n for sumo candid criticism at this months meeting of the Morrinsvilie branch of the union. Mr. J. E. Leeson said it was generally known that the members of the union who subscribed to the paper were of all shades of political thought, yet the propaganda published in the official organ concerned only one party. This was especially noticeable in the November issue. The speaker suggested that the secretary should write to the Auckland executive of the union asking if the Country Party had contributed anything toward the last issue of the paper which contained only political propaganda. The president, Mr. J. M. Allen said previous overtures on the matter had not been replied to. It was certainly unfair that members of the union should be compelled to pay f or propaganda which they did not agree with. He doubted whether it would serve any practical purpose to pass another vote of censure on the Auckland executive. It was decided to write and ask if the journal had been subsidised for its November issue.
