CHANGE AT MATAURA
HON. J. G. ANDERSON DEFEATED UNITED WINS SEAT In the official count in Mataura the figures show Mr. H. McDougall (United) to have a majority of 62 over the Hon. G. J. Anderson (Government). There are only five votes to come. In the official counting of the votes it was found that 99 had been wrongly credited to Mr. Anderson, and that instead of the Government candidate having a lead of 33 votes on the night of the election, the United candidate was leading by 165. Further details now show the position to be:— H. McDOUGALL (U.) .. 4,173 G. J. There are still nine doubtful seats tp be finalised. The official count of the Auckland East seat is expected to be finished to-morrow. NOTHING TO SAY MR. ANDERSON RETURNS FROM ABROAD Press Association WELDING TON, To-day. Looking much improved in health, the Minister of Labour, the Hon. G. J. Anderson, returned to New Zealand yesterday from his eight months’ trip abroad. Interviewed, Mr. Anderson declined to say anything for publication, either about his trip abroad or concerning the change which has taken place in the political outlook during his absence. MID-CANTERBURY MR. JONES WINS SEAT •Press Association ASHBURTON, To-day. The official count in Mid-Canterbury returns Mr. Jones < Reform) with a majority of 55. His majority previously was 82, with 581 votes to come. The final figures are: D. Jones (R.) 4,137 J. Connolly (U.) 4,082 M. Williams (L.) 905 R. W. Wightman. (I.) .. .. 242 AUCKLAND SEATS GREY LYNN NOW DECIDED WIN FOR MR. FLETCHER The official count has definitely returned Mr. J. S. Fletcher as member for Grey Lynn by a majority of 64. His majority on ejection night was 101. The final result is as follow: J. S. Fletcher (U.) 5,489 F. N. Bartram (L.) 5,425 P. B. Fitzherbert (R.) 684 Mrs. L. The percentage of enrolled electors in Auckland who exercised their right to vote was particularly high. In Roskill a total of 12,568 formal votes were cast, or 87.68 of the possible. In Gre’y Lynn 11,796 formal votes were cast, 87.37 of the possible. In Auckland West 11,499 formal votes were cast, and the percentage was 86.28 of the possible, while in Eden the total was 11,998 and the percentage 85.02. There were 97 informal votes cast In both the Auckland West and Eden electorates, 77 in Roskill and 126 In Grey Lynn. AUCKLAND CENTRAL An increased majority for Mr. Parry (Labour) has resulted from the official count in Auckland Central. The absentee votes have increased his lead from 2,803 on election night to 3,024. The final figures are:

UNITED CAUCUS MEETING AT WELLINGTON TO-MORROW Although details of the business to be dealt with are not known in Auckland. i is expected that, at the caucus of the United Party at Wellington tomorrow, Sir Joseph Ward, leader of the party, will review the political situation, and that thereafter the members will decide on a plan of action. Mr. H. R. Jenkins (Parnell) is at present in Taranaki, and he will proceed to Wellington from there. Mr. A. J. Stallworthy (Eden) left Auckland by train last evening, and he will be followed this evening by the other Auckland members of the party, Mr. J. B. Donald (Auckland East). Mr! J. S. Fletcher (Grey Lynn), Mr. A. J. Murdoch (Marsden), Mr. G. C. Munns (Roskill), Mr F. Lye (Waikato) and Mr * W. J. Broadfoot (Waitomo).
