FAST TRACKS GALLOPS AT ELLERSLIE PREPARING FOR TAKAPUNA j Climatic conditions could not have been better for training operations at Ellerslie this morning, and with the approaching Takapuna meeting not far distant, a good number of gallops were witnessed in the early morning. By way of a change the course proper (one trestle out), including the new part at the top, was available, and it was on this track that most of the fast work took place. The going was conducive to fast times. King Emerald anQ Eager Rose , were first out, being asked to go a mile in 1.48 3-5, the initial two furlongs taking 26 1-5. There was nothing separating the pair at the end, and both could have done a little better. Lomint travelled over seven furlongs in 1.33 2-5, and was finishing on at the end. With a big weight in the saddle, Gold Money was under a steady hold to run seven furlongs in 1.34 1-5. She will be at concert pitch for the Takapuna and should run a good race. Sir Archie, on the outer, accompanied Spear Dance over six furlongs in 1.23 1-5, both finishing on terms, with the former doing it comfortably. > Te Aloney had the best of Jolly j Aloney and Sir Aloud (who was left), ' at the end of five furlongs in 1.4 4-5 j —a fair gallop. Te Aloney has settled down and is steadily improving. Cup Candidates Corinax and The Lover were associated over seven furlongs, the last six taking 1.20 1-5, with Corinax having much the better of it at the end. Still, The Lover moved nicely and is worthy of consideration in the Te Kuiti Cup on Saturday. Taneriri was several lengths in advance of Alon Star at the conclusion of half a mile in 50 4-5, and was pudting plenty of dash into his work at the end. Golden Wedding strode home from the mile peg in 1.47 3-5, and was never keyed up at any part of the effort. She is looking a picture at present. Double Mint had a slight advantage over Roman Pearl at the end of five furlongs in 3.5. Miss Aiyrtle, Brampton and Respirator were in company in a task over six furlongs, taking 1.6 3-5 for the final five. The trio finished on terms, with Miss Aiyrtle having a shade the best of it. The Best Six As the result of his gallop this morning, Bombarder will now come into pronounced favour for his engagement at Te Kuiti o.n Saturday. He was sent six furlongs, accompanied by The Thorn, and had no difficulty in beating liis companion at the finish. The time, 1.18 4-5, was the best of the morning, and besides indicating that Bombarder is in fine fettle, it showed that he has improved since racing at Whangarei. Red Lion led Valsier over half a mile in 51, and was moving strongly at the end. Winsome Boy hit out freely in a bout with Avon Court over five furlongs in 1.9, but when pulled up it was learned that Avon Court had scraped a trestle at the commencement and had cut herself on the off foreleg. Although the injury may necessitate the filly foregoing her engagement in the Takapuna Plate, a smart recovery is anticipated. Lucklaine moved well ■> within himself over five furlongs in 1.7, while Lady’s Boy, Bennie and Knight’s Town got to the end of half a. mile in 51 3-5, with little between them. A Good Try-out Hyde Park and Modest Boy excelled all gallops by covering a mile in 1.45 4-5, there not being a great deal to choose between them at the finish. The pair were smart to jump away and passed over the initial furlong in 12 2-5, keeping together to cut out the two in 24 2-5. The first three occupied 38 1-5, and that there was no loitering on the Journey was instanced by the fact that the half-mile took 51, and* the first five 1.4. Both finished nicely, but not too strongly. All things considered, it was an impressive piece of work and shows the pair to be in great order. In addition they covered a lot of extra ground, particularly Modest Boy, who was on the outer. The Absurd gelding Bizarro was given a task extending over a round, being joined at the six-furlong post by Diamond Queen, and at the half-mile by Bonny Day. Bizari / moved freely throughout to record 2.6. the last seven furlongs taking 1.32 3-5, and the final five 1.7. AlcGovern) jumped a couple of schooling hurdles in easy fashion.
SPILL AT EPSOM PACERS COME TO GRIEF DRIVER JULIAN INJURED „ By falling heavily at Alexandra Park this morning while driving Roife Audubon in a work-out, the well-known driver A. Julian received a nasty shaking and several bad bruises. Liivan was being ridden a mile hustle in saddle by J. Cockle, with St. Bridget, driven by Freeman Holmes as an associate. When reaching the halfmile disk A Julian joined issue with the promising three-year-old Roife Audubon.
Luvan was slightly in advance of her stable-mate with St. Bridget tucked in behind the latter 'as the three-furlong post was approached, where the colt appeared to make a jump and came down heavily, with St. Bridget somersaulting clean over him. Roife Audubon’s sulky owas badly smashed and when “Tartar” Julian was disentangled from the wreckage it was thought liis collarbone was broken, but closer investigation proved that the joint was badly bruised, while the driver was aLso severely shaken.
Freeman Holmes and his mare had a lucky escape, both coming through scatheless, but Roife Audubon had slight abrasions to his head. St. Bridget later worked over a couple of circuits, demonstrating that the incident had not marred her prospects for to-morrow.
It will be unfortunate for A. Julian if his injuries prevent him from driving to-rnorrow as lie had good chances of being successful behind Medusa and Jackie Audubon.
