BOOTH’S SUCCESSOR

ARMY COUNCIL SUMMONED UNPRECEDENTED ACTION Heed. noon. LONDON, Friday. The summoning of the High Council of the Salvation Army early in January is unprecedented. The body is composed of all the commissioners and officers, whatever their rank, commanding the territories, and naturally includes representatives from Australia and New Zealand. A high oflicial informed the “Daily Telegaph’’ that the council is empowered to determine whether the general is able to discharge his duties of office, and if he is unfit to elect a successor; therefore any nomination made by the general m a sealed envelope automatically becomes void. The heads of the Army have issued a statement expressing regret at the gravity of General Bramwell Booth’s condition. This says the Army’s working is entirely inaffected, however, as every arrangement exists for ♦he efficient maintenance of its operations throughout the world. All discussions about supposed claimants for the general’s post as chief of the Army are described in the Tk tement as P rem ature, if not absurd. ™ ere are neither claimants nor candidates, it says, and the matter can only be decided when a vacancy is created.
