ROTORUA COUNCIL MEETS

The monthly meeting of the Rotorua County Council was he.d in the county Chambers on Thursday. Mr. H. P. Ford presided. The Public Works Department, Tauranga, forwarded the sum of £226 Is 3d in payment of the claim for works completed. A letter was received from the district engineer, Tauranga, advising that the Main Highways Board would arrive in Rotorua on November 26 and would receive deputations; also that from April, 1928, all expenditure on maintenance and expenditure on new bridges was to be subsidised on the basis of £2 for £l. The town clerk, Rotorua, acknowledged the receipt of the county’s letter agreeing to the Borough Council’s traffic inspector, Mr. D. M. Ford, assisting the county, for £IOO per annum. The Tauranga County Council advised that it had in contemp’ation certain works on Mangaitai Gorge Road at the boundary of Rotorua and Tauranga Counties, and asked if the county engineer would arrange to insnect that road wath members of his council, with a view to combined action. The councillors representing the North Riding. Messrs. A. L. K>ith, S. N. Jollv. J. J. Smythe and the engineer, were aonointed to confer with the members of the Tauranga County Council The treasurer suggested that more monev be on the maintenance of riding ro-ds. The Mayor, Mr. J. N. McLean, presided.
