RAILWAY PROFITS FALL
FIGURES FOR MONTH (Svecial to THE SUN) WELLINGTON. Thursday. The steady increase in working profits from the railways during the lasi 16 weeks has been checked in the period of four weeks ended October 13 The working profits are only £25,273 as against £34.702 for the corresponding period of last year. The gross revenue from all sources £544,326. was an increase of £4,491 Expenses. £519,053. were higher bj £13,920. North Island railways earnec £293,593, an increase of £3.112, anc working expenses £270,253. increased: by £ 5,648. The net revenue oi £23,640, shows a reduction of £2.536 Losses in the South are greater that last year. Gross receipts declined b\ £3.466 to £194.331, and expenses increased by £1,757 to £213,292. Tinexcess of working expenses, £18,961 was greater by £5,223. The net revenue from miscellaneous services was £20,594, a reduction oi £1,670. of working expenses. The working profits for 28 weeks are less by £16.886. The net return from the South Island railways is better by £8,903 and that from miscellaneous services has increased by £8.546, but the net operating revenue of the North Island railways is lower by £34,636.
