LOW APPLE VALUES MORE HOTHOUSE TOMATOES Apples sold at low rates in the City Markets to-day. T OCAL apples are very low in price. J Larger quantities of hothouse tomatoes are now coming forward and aro selling well. There is a poor demand for lemons. A larger quantity of gooseberries was on hand to-day, and a slight decrease in values took place. The inquiry for dessert pears is very poor. Strawberries are well sought after. Sydney Valencia oranges are bringing higher values because supplies of Island oranges are finished. All vegetables are well supplied. New potatoes and green peas are coming forward in large quantities. The demand for poultry is good. • Cockerels are still attracting attention from buyers. Heavy hens are selling well, but prices have decreased for the lighter breeds. In the small stock market, baconer pigs are bringing £ 3 6s to £3 18s; porkers, £2 to £2 10s: slips, to £ 1 6s; and weaners, 5s to 10s.
