NEW REVUE AT ST. JAMES
GEORGE WARD THIS EVENING The SL James Theatre should be well filled this evening to welcome the George Ward “Whirl of Mirth” Revue Company to Auckland. Bright sketches, and dances are the offering of this combination, who have made a great name in Southern centres as a really bright revue company. The programme for this evening will be found to be highly entertaining. Humour will, of course, predominate—what else with Ward and Sherman in the cast? —but some exceptional ballet work is promised, and the shov/ lias a more than generous leavening of good singers. Little Hermie (George Ward) is as irrepressible as ever. He has more quips, jokes and sketches than when he was here last, and every one of them is good. Charles Sherman, his, foil and partner in humour, is equally good, and there will be plenty of unrestrained laughter when they get going. Clever fooling will also be put across by Al. Maurice. The girls in the show who sing include Colleen Hope, Jean Keith, and Alma Valder. Another delightful singer is Gus Dawson, and George Ward is not above lending a voice in that direction himself. The Snapshot Girls, the ballet, are one of the features of the show. Led by the Ussher Sisters, and beautifully frocked, they dance the light fantastic most entrancingly. That popular jazz band, the Charleston Symphonic Six, has been retained and will add very materially to the musical side of the programme. Altogether this new company is a snappy and fascinating show that contains a wealth of entertainment for all tastes.
