VIVISECTION
THE PRACTICE CONDEMNED LOCAL SOCIETY FORMED Last evening a meeting was held in The Temple, Wellington Street, dealing with the subject of vivisection. The speaker, Mr. M. Walker, dealt at length with the question and showed conclusively, on statements made by vivisectors. themselves, tliut the whole practice from the point of view of man by adding to his knowledge of the treatment of disease, has proved futile. So much so is this the case that vivisectors are now demanding the right to practise upon the bodies of condemned criminals. It was shown that the practice upon human beings has already taken place in Germany and America. Some of the practices upon animals were described in detail and were so revolting that it was hard to believe any human being could engage in them. After the ad<l’ess a resolution was proposed and carried calling upon the incoming Government to legislate for the effective prevention of the practice in the Dominion, and recording the meeting’s wholehearted support of societies and individuals throughout the world who are devoting their energies to the suppression of it. At the conclusion of the meeting those present formed themselves into a local branch of the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection. Mr. G. T. Jones, of Penrose, being appointed secretary for the time being.
