HURLEY AT SINGAPORE
STRONG WINDS OVER SEA FLIGHT TO BURMA TO-DAY (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Received 10.30 a.m. SINGAPORE, Wednesday. Captain Frank Hurley and his companions arrived at Singapore at 1.30 o’clock this afternoon. His wheels fouled a bunker in the racecourse, but suffered no damage. Captain Hurley said that it was rather windy over the Timor Sea, although the weather was fine, but they had become used to it now. They preferred flying over the sea because it was' calmer. The Spirit of Australia left Batavia this morning. The plane was accompanied by a Dutch mail-carrying airplane en route to Holland. Captain Hurley followed the Sumatra Coast and was 200 miles oft' Singapore at noon, suffering from the effects of strong winds and heavy clouds. At 12.45 p.m. he asked Singapore to show smoke signals at the landing ground. He leaves for Victoria Point, the southernmost point of Burma, at daybreak to-morrow.
