MACHINE ON TIME PAYMENT
WOULD-BE PARLIAMENTARIAN’S DEFAULT Press Association WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Mrs. Young, the lady Parliamentary candidate, was to-day defendant in a civil action brought by the Singer Sewing Machine Company in respect to a machine sold to defendant on time-payment in 1924, and on which £8 10s was alleged still to be due. Plaintiffs say the machine was bought on terms in 1923 at £23, and was later exchanged for one at £37. The defence says the sum was £27. There is a suggestion by the defence that a deposit of £ 5 was paid by the agent who made the original deal, but this is denied emphatically, the agent saying that if Mrs. Young says that, she would be committing perjury. There is also a suggestion that there was misrepresentation as to the machine being a hemstitching one. This is also denied. The hemstitching attachment was supplied later. The case is proceeding.
