MR. COATES WILL LEARN

NEW ZEALAND GETTING LIKE AMERICA MARSDEN LABOUR MAN’S VIEWS (From Our Own Correspondent) WHANGAHEI, To-day. “Mr. Coates is a young man in politics, with a lot to learn, and he is going to learn it at the next election,” said Mr. W. H. Chetham, the Marsden Labour candidate, in a policy speech in Whangarei Town Hall last evening. Mr, Chetham said that America was a non-democratic democracy controlled by advertising politicians, and under Mr. Coates New Zealand was fast following in America’s steps. The candidate outlined his own policy on the usual Labour lines, and replied to questions. The Mayor, Mr. L. J. Brake presided over an attendance of 300. A vote of thanks and confidence was given to the candidate.
